Conference to focus on the long term future of the markets
Oslo (2 February 2010)
In the wake of the Copenhagen summit, all eyes will be on Carbon Market Insights 2010, the annual event for the world's carbon markets. In its 7th year, CMI10 takes place from March 2-4 in Amsterdam.
The opening session will see Jørgen Kildahl from Statkraft and Dr Prodipto Ghosh from the Energy and Resource Institute, India, debate what direction international climate politics will take. Other speakers at the conference will include Dr. Jacqueline Cramer, Minister for Housing, Spatial planning and Environment for the Netherlands and Teresa Ribera Rodríguez, Secretary of State for Climate Change for Spain, as well as senior representatives from the UNFCCC, the European Commission, the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the CDM Executive Board, European governments, industry and utilities.
CMI10 offers journalists unrivalled networking opportunities. Last year close to 1,300 delegates attended from 60 countries, including government figures, policy makers, business leaders and decision-makers from across the global carbon community.
This is an extraordinary time for global emissions markets. The long term future of the markets is at a critical juncture, with the Copenhagen summit yielding an accord but revealing significant rifts, and the US Congress still haggling over a possible emissions trading scheme.
The Carbon Market Insights conference attracts speakers and networkers central to the climate change community: politicians and regulators from the front line meet the vanguard of emitters, investors and emissions traders.
We will be asking if the current emissions trading mechanisms are the rights ones, what the prospects are for a US ETS, what happens to the CDM, how to avoid deforestation and whether the market can survive the year following the chaotic Copenhagen summit.
As well as giving journalists direct access to the movers and shakers in the world’s emissions markets, press events will include the launch of the Carbon 2010 report, the largest survey ever done on the carbon markets. The report gives the most comprehensive overview of the international carbon market to date. It is based on Point Carbon's databases and market intelligence, together with the world's largest survey on the carbon market. The report gives a full overview of the market in 2009; volumes, prices, value, interactions with power prices, and the market's expectations for 2010. A press release will be issued and the report’s launch will be accompanied by a press conference. Senior members of Point Carbon’s analysis departments will be available to take questions from journalists on any topic. One-to-ones can also be arranged with senior Point Carbon staff.
