18-20 August 2008, 4th Australia-New Zealand Climate Change & Business Conference, Auckland

The 4th Australia- New Zealand Climate Change & Business Conference will be held in Auckland, New Zealand with both the New Zealand and Australian Federal Governments as Foundation Sponsors. The event will focus on the risks and opportunities facing business as a result of climate change with a particular emphasis on emissions trading, in both compliance and voluntary markets. The program is structured with plenary sessions that will examine big-picture issues such as current and future carbon market activity and the negotiation process towards a post 2012 global treaty while three streams of concurrent sessions will provide practical advice on specific issues facing business.

Some of the topics to be covered within the streams include:

  • Voluntary Markets: how they can co-exist with compliance markets; some of the curly issues in determining your business footprint; marketing your climate change response.
  • Compliance Markets: how to source carbon credits; the CDM market from a major Fund’s perspective; linking the New Zealand and Australian schemes.
  • Complementary Measures: what policies other than emissions trading are needed to drive energy efficiency; the perceived disconnect in listed markets regarding climate change; how to bridge the investment “death zone”.
  • Land Use: competing needs for agricultural lands; reducing ruminant methane; sequestration; avoided deforestation.

Speakers
More than 90 expert speakers from this region and around the globe have been invited including Prime Ministers Helen Clark and Kevin Rudd. The event is a must for anyone involved in climate change strategy and policy planning and implementation. It is expected to be the pre-eminent business gathering on climate change in the region.
