Kyoto balance

The figure sets out the net Kyoto positions of Annex B countries for the 2008-12 period, counting the effects of domestic mitigation measures, sinks and planned CDM/JI purchases. Countries with a positive balance need to reduce emissions or purchase additional credits to comply with their Kyoto requirements. The numbers were last updated on 18 September 2008.

Post 2012 - timetable

Meetings of the Ad hoc Working Group on long-term cooperative action (LTCA) under the Convention, established by the Bali mandate:

  • 1-12 December 2008: COP14/CMP4 in Poznañ, Poland
  • Throughout 2009: 3 additional sessions
  • December 2009: COP-15/CMP-5 and sessions of the subsidiary bodies in Copenhagen, Denmark

Timeline for processing EU Commission's proposal on climate-energy package:

  • 7-8. October 2008: Environment committee in the EU Parliament to vote (adopt amendments) on proposals in ETS, effort sharing and CCS.
  • Mid-October: The EU Commission aims to link the CITL to the ITL
  • 4-5 December: Environment Council, the EU environment ministers might adopt a common position on the climate and energy package.
  • 8-9 December: Energy Council. The EU energy ministers could adopt a common position on the directive to promote renewable energy.
  • December 2008: Expected plenary vote (adopt amendments) in the EU Parliament on proposals in the climate and energy package.
  • June 2009: EU Parliament elections
