Global carbon market volumes and values in 2009

POINT CARBON ANALYSIS - The world’s carbon markets exchanged 8.2 billion tonnes (Gt) CO2e in the course of 2009. The value of these transactions was €94 billion (US$136bn). Total transaction volume is up 68 percent on 2008, mainly due to a strong increase in EUA volume. However, due to lower carbon prices, the total market value of transactions in 2009 remains at the same level as the previous year. See Table 1 below for details.
